Provenfit

jobs you actually fit, with receipts.

Provenfit is a free, open-source job search assistant that runs on your computer. It finds postings you could take, checks the best ones against your own experience, and writes a resume and cover letter where every claim traces back to something you told it.

Provenfit's Find jobs page for a fictional frontend engineer: a finished search listing every eligible posting, the reviewed ones with a fit score and the reasons behind it.
A search for Jordan Rivera, a made-up frontend engineer from the project's test fixture.

it reads every posting you could take.

A search pulls from thousands of company boards and a handful of public ones, then leaves out postings that can't hire where you live and links that have closed.

You see every posting that's left, ranked. The top ones get a full review. Reviews are remembered, so the next search spends its reviews further down the list.

Company boards
About 12,000 Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby boards, read in the background every six hours.
Job boards
Remotive, Himalayas, Jobicy, Remote OK and Arbeitnow. BDJobs, for Bangladesh, when you tick it.
Web search
Your model provider's own search, centered on where you live, when it has one.
Links you paste
Read through the board's API where there is one. The optional Lightpanda browser reads pages built in JavaScript.

it shows its work.

A review breaks the posting into the four to eight things it actually asks for, and searches your experience for each one on its own.

Each requirement comes back met, partly met or missing, with the line from your resume or notes behind the answer. A gap stays a gap.

A posting's review: each requirement marked met or partly met, with the facts from the candidate's experience that back it.

it writes when you press write.

A search never writes anything. On a match you like, Write drafts a cover letter and a one-page resume for that job, built around the posting's keywords that your experience actually shows.

Then every claim is checked against your facts. Anything unsupported is rewritten, or flagged with the reason. Searches, uploads and writing all run in the background, so you can leave the page while they work.

An application page: the drafted cover letter beside its claim check and the keywords it addresses.

what you need.

Docker Desktop
Free from Docker. It runs Provenfit and its database on your computer. Open it once after installing. Contributors can run Provenfit with Node instead, as CONTRIBUTING.md shows.
A model key
From Anthropic, OpenAI or Google. Or a model on your own computer through Ollama or LM Studio, which can't search the web, so it uses the job boards only.
What it costs
Provenfit is free; your provider bills each call. On Anthropic, a search costs about $0.60 to $0.70 and a written application about $0.10 to $0.20, measured in testing. On OpenAI and Google it depends on your model. A local model costs nothing.
Your data
Stays on your computer, in Provenfit's own database. There are no accounts and nothing is hosted.

install it in a few minutes.

Open Docker Desktop, then run these in a terminal: Terminal on a Mac, PowerShell on Windows.

The first start takes a while: Docker builds Provenfit and downloads a 130 MB model that reads text on your machine.

Terminal

$ git clone https://github.com/s0vers/provenfit.git$ cd provenfit$ cp .env.example .env# in .env: paste one AI key and set TZ to your time zone$ docker compose up -d

No key yet? The app tells you what to add.

Then open localhost:7586 and follow the steps above. The setup guide covers what to do without git, and CONTRIBUTING.md how to run it from source with npm.

questions.

The app says “No model provider is set up”
It found no key. Open .env in the Provenfit folder, paste one key after its name, such as ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=, save, and run docker compose up -d. The page names what is missing.
A search found only a few jobs
Most public boards list only remote jobs, and Arbeitnow leans toward Germany. Company boards and web search also find jobs near you, and web search needs an Anthropic, OpenAI or Google key. In search settings, Remote only and Only jobs open to me narrow the list, and jobs you've seen stay hidden until you turn on Show jobs I have seen.
What's the claim check?
After a draft, a model splits the letter and resume into claims and checks each one against your facts. An unsupported claim is rewritten once; anything still unsupported shows on the application with the reason. It's a model, so it can miss things. Read every letter before you send it.
Can I use OpenAI or Gemini?
Yes. Put OPENAI_API_KEY or GOOGLE_GENERATIVE_AI_API_KEY in .env instead. OpenRouter, Ollama and LM Studio work too, set up like this. The prompts were tuned on Claude, so fit scores on other providers may run a little higher or lower.
What does BDJobs opt-in mean?
BDJobs is a job board in Bangladesh. Provenfit reads it through the search API its own site uses, and the site asks crawlers to stay away, so it's off until you tick BDJobs under Job boards in search settings.
How do I update?

From the Provenfit folder, run these. Your data stays.

Terminal

$ git pull$ docker compose up -d --build
Where is my data?
In a database on your computer: your resume, notes, the jobs you've seen and everything Provenfit writes. Your provider sees what each model call needs, and job boards see your search words. docker compose down -v deletes all of it.
Does it apply for me?
No. It finds postings, explains the fit, and drafts the letter and resume when you ask. You read them and send them yourself.
Is there a hosted version?
No, on purpose. There are no accounts. Provenfit answers only on your own computer.

The technical notes cover the search, the checks and the numbers behind them.
